Book Review: The Rapture

The Rapture
by Liz Jensen

Bloomsbury: June 2009
ISBN No: 9780747599005

Gabrielle Fox's main concern is a personal one, to rebuild her career as a psychologist after a shattering car accident. But when she is assigned Bethany Krall, one of the most dangerous teenagers in the country, she begins to fear she has made a terrible mistake.

This is a modern fictional story that touches on the topics of mental illness, disability, evangalism and environmental issues. Once started this story is difficult to put down, although I did find it a bit strange in places. It took me a few pages at the start of the book to discover what the story was actually about, but once I got into the plot I was hooked.

This is a fairly fast paced psychological thriller that ends traumatically, but I do not think that this story could have been completed in any other way. The book is quick and easy to read and one that I would suggest that you should take a closer look at, if you get the chance.

  3. I too enjoyed this apocalyptic thriller and it being set in the very near future made it all the more scary. I loved that the plot seemed so plausible.

  5. Sounds intereting. I'm not a fan of "happy ever after" endings. Awesome cover.
